Olivia talks about her inspiration
Olivia talks about her artistic inspiration and design ideas and how to style the Severine. She has been a fan of meli melo for many years.
What is it about meli melo designs that caught your eye?
OP: The craftsmanship and design.
How did your collaboration with Melissa come about?
OP: Melissa and I have known each other for years and she reached out and said it would be a great collaboration after working together for many years.
You have managed to build a very successful brand and business for yourself, what one piece of advice would you give to women who look up to you?
OP: Work hard and let your work speak for itself. Wake up early and go to bed early. Be the best version of oneself.
Your mother was an interior designer, how do architecture and design inspire and inform your style?
OP: My mother and her business partner have known each other and have worked together for 38 years; it is admirable to have a business and relationship for that long. I've learned a lot about patterns, textures, design, colors and how each room must have a flow and a connection to one another when decorating your home.
We are very proud of our Sicilian roots. Given your southern Italian descent and personal connections to the country, what is it about Italy and its culture that you find so special? Why has Italy stolen your heart?
OP: There is so much history and endless beauty to be found throughout the country; from the cities through to the countryside. Architecture, art, fashion and food are all things I love and in Italy they check all of these boxes.
You have often mentioned that craftsmanship is very important to you. What is it about carefully hand-made items that you love so much?
OP: We are still so fortunate to have a small community of artisans. Every creation is made with love and passion and you can see that in every stitch; a machine simply cannot achieve this.
Here at meli melo we are very proud of the work of our Florentine artisans; do you think it’s important that the fashion industry strives to support local craftsmen and keep traditions alive?
OP: Absolutely, we are a wonderful small community and it is important to help each other in any way that we can.
Every creation is made with love and passion and you can see that in every stitch; a machine simply cannot achieve this.
In Winter, I wear the burgundy bag with a great mustard or camel coat but it’s also the perfect colorway to wear in warm climates with an all-white outfit and a few golden touches.
What’s your favourite Severine detail?
OP: The hardware is very special.
Why did you choose these colour hues for the Severine? Which aspects of your personality do they represent and what inspired you?
OP: They’re great versatile colors that easily transition into Fall and work throughout the seasons.
What’s in your meli melo bag right now?
OP: My keys, wallet, my phone charger from Vianel, and an extra pair of sunglasses.
How will you be styling your Severine for the festive season?
OP: In Winter, I wear the burgundy bag with a great mustard or camel coat but it’s also the perfect colorway to wear in warm climates with an all-white outfit and a few golden touches.
