With a client list including Kate Bosworth, Emily Ratajkowski and Rooney Mara, LA-based Kris Zero is the stylist behind some of the most sensational red carpet looks. Her editorial work spans over a decade, having worked on an array of memorable high-fashion editorials and collaborating with the likes of Tom Ford.
I live by the notion of ‘work hard, play hard’. Around styling for photoshoots, filming and red carpet events, I wrap up in LA’s dynamic culture. My favourite things about living here are the mountains, the ocean and the scenic drives down to Malibu Surfrider Beach with my board.
Fashion was all around me, growing up in New York, so my fascination started at a super young age. As my ears always perked up around fashion talk, delving into styling was initially pretty simple; I prepared myself by reading, watching and watching even more.
‘I’ve learnt that communication is key to all successful collaborations.’
Throughout my career, I have met some incredible people that have really shaped me and the way that I work. Coming from an editorial background, it seemed like a natural progression for me to become a celebrity stylist - especially as personalities gained traction in fashion.
Over the years, I’ve learnt that communication is key to all successful collaborations. When accessorising, I have always looked for a luxury element or design detail that can add an interesting touch; I remember, my sister telling me as a kid that I looked like Mr. T, after I’d stacked a series of necklaces.
‘When I’m styling others, I can go anywhere; the possibilities are endless.’
I’m forever taking influence from 60s and 70s folk stars and like to discover new inspirations and interests rather than staying up-to-date on current trends. Although my favourite designers are constantly changing as I evolve, I have always loved the uniqueness of Paco Rabanne; there just isn’t anything else like it.
When I’m styling others, I can go anywhere; the possibilities are endless and that’s what is so fun. Yet with my own personal style, I believe that less is more. I would say that my signature look is laid-back California girl; a simple grey sweatshirt, jeans and a white t-shirt are the key pieces that make up my staple wardrobe.
